Surface mapping methods

The first measurement method used was measuring the forces on the model tested in a wind tunnel. This raised more questions that could only be solved by measuring the pressure on the model’s surface. This is still done with pressure taps, but the advent of new optical methods provides a real insight into the flow over the model’s surface. Nowadays, all the physical quantities are adressed: pressure, temperature, heat flux, model shape and shear stress.
